A Bayesian Based Method to Generate a Synergetic Land-Cover Map from Existing Land-Cover Products

چکیده
Global land cover is an important parameter of the land surface and has been derived by various researchers based on remote sensing images. Each land cover product has its own disadvantages and limitations. Data fusion technology is becoming a notable method to fully integrate existing land cover information. In this paper, we developed a method to generate a synergetic global land cover map (synGLC) based on Bayes theorem. A state probability vector was defined to precisely and quantitatively describe the land cover classification of every pixel and reduce the errors caused by legends harmonization and spatial resampling. Simple axiomatic approaches were used to generate the prior land cover map, in which pixels with high consistency were regarded to be correct and then used as benchmark to obtain posterior land cover map. Validation results show that our hybrid land cover map (synGLC, the dataset is available on request) has the best overall performance compared with the existing global land cover products. Closed shrub-lands and permanent wetlands have the highest uncertainty in our fused land cover map. OPEN ACCESS Remote Sens. 2014, 6 5590 This novel method can be extensively applied to fusion of land cover maps with different legends, spatial resolutions or geographic ranges.

A methodology to generate a synergetic land-cover map by fusion of different land-cover products
The main goal of this study is to develop a general framework for building a hybrid land-cover map by the synergistic combination of a number of land-cover classifications with different legends and spatial resolutions. The proposed approach assesses class-specific accuracies of datasets and establishes affinity between thematic legends using a common land-cover language such as the UN Land-Cov...

unprincipled changes in land use are major challenges for many countries and different regions of the world, which in turn have devastating effects on natural resources, Therefore, the study of land-use changes has a fundamental and important role for environmental studies. The purpose of this study is to detect and predicting of land use/ land cover (LULC) changes in Darab plain through the Ma...
متن کاملAutomatic Iterative Generalization for Land Cover Data
The problem of generalizing spatial data is studied in the context of land cover data. The theory behind automatic generalization is reviewed and a raster based deterministic iterative generalization method is proposed. The methodology is based on the Map Algebra. The multivariate statistical testing methods are extended to deal also with generalized land cover data. The case study is related t...

Assessment of land use spatiotemporal changes provide valuable data for managers to elaborate plans. Land use change modeling is one of the methods used by planers to manage land use changes. Detection of such changes may help decision makers and planners to understand the factors in land use and land cover changes in order to take effective and useful measures. Remote sensing (RS) and geograph...
متن کاملComparing the Capability of Sentinel 2 and Landsat 8 Satellite Imagery in Land Use and Land Cover Mapping Using Pixel-based and Object-based Classification Methods
Introduction: Having accurate and up-to-date information on the status of land use and land cover change is a key point to protecting natural resources, sustainable agriculture management and urban development. Preparing the land cover and land use maps with traditional methods is usually time and cost consuming. Nowadays satellite imagery provides the possibility to prepare these maps in less ...
